INGROWN TOENAILS

One of the most common Podiatry conditions is Ingrown toenails / Onychocryptosis

Symptoms

This is a condition that can be extremely painful and debilitating.

Toenails have a tendency in becoming ingrown due to incorrect fitting footwear, trauma and poorly trimmed nails.

Ingrown toenails usually present as red, swollen and sometimes puss filled area of the lateral nail fold. Left untreated it can progress to a localised infection occurring.

Conservative reduction of the nail in the affected corners can solve the situation temporarily, but the most effective form of treatment is to have a minor invasive procedure called a Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) with Phenol matrixectomy.
